Forsterite
Forsterite is a mineral belonging to the olivine family, primarily composed of magnesium silicate. Its formula is (Mg, Fe)2SiO4, with forsterite being the magnesium-rich end member of the solid solution series with fayalite (the iron-rich counterpart). It is often found in igneous and metamorphic rocks, and can be present in meteorites and as a secondary mineral in some basaltic lavas.
